About the event
Join us for a creative and hands-on experience that celebrates the beauty of bread, nature, and artistry. Hosted by sourdough artist Katrina Niesen (@the.sourdough.mama) and textile artist France Malvar (@lufranceinteriors), this workshop brings together the craft of sourdough scoring and the elegance of hand-dyeing silk with natural elements like flowers, plants, and kitchen waste.
Held at Valentina in Encinitas, CA, on October 4th from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, this immersive experience will guide you through:
Botanical Silk Dyeing – With France's guidance, create a naturally dyed silk scarf using a curated selection of plant materials. You’ll take home your one-of-a-kind scarf, perfect for wearing or adding to a purse.
Artistic Scoring Session – Learn to score your own fairy pumpkin sourdough loaf using Katrina’s signature techniques. You'll decorate your dough a and then bake your creation fresh in your home oven.
Lite Bites & Cold Drinks – Enjoy a relaxed, inspiring atmosphere with light refreshments and snacks.
This workshop is a celebration of seasonal creativity—Katrina’s delicate scoring inspired by florals, and France’s earthy, elegant approach to botanical textiles. You’ll leave with two new skills and both edible and wearable art that reflects the beauty of nature!
Please note: Your scored sourdough loaf will be ready to bake at home shortly after class. Instructions will be provided.
